Meet the Shady Oak Staff!
Joyce Trigger founded Shady Oak Christian School in 1987. Her life has been blessed immeasurably by the hundreds of families who have trusted the school in the nurturing, education, and guidance of their children. Joyce graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Elementary Education and from the University of Houston with a MS in Curriculum and Instruction. Her passion is Parent Education, understanding fully that parents are the REAL teachers of young children. She and her husband, Tom, have lived in the Pecan Grove Community for almost 30 years! They enjoy being grandparents to Ella, Kate, and Sammy. What a gift to have Ella, age 5, come to Shady Oak in the Bridge class!
Ashley is excited to begin her second year at Shady Oak as the Assistant Director. My favorite part of being at Shady Oak is getting to know each child and their family and seeing children begin to develop into who they were divinely created to be! Ashley is also a Yoga Instructor and enjoys spending time with her husband, Casey; son, Silas; their dog, Shiloh, and their chickens, Jill & Genevieve. In their free time, Ashley's family spends weekends around the fire pit in their backyard, countless hours playing Uno at the dinner table, and as much time as they can at their family's land in the country.
Selena will be starting her 7th year with Shady Oak, this fall. This year will be her fourth year as lead teacher in Readiness. She is excited to start another great year! Selena and husband, Brandon, have a10 -year-old son, Jaeden, and a 4-year-old daughter, Aubrie. Outside of Shady Oak and being a mom and wife, Selena will be continuing her Education degree. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, sports, and being outdoors.
Jessicca is so excited to begin her first year as a teacher at Shady Oak, as a camp teacher this summer, and a Readiness teacher this fall. Jessicca holds a Bachelor of Science in Child Development & Psychology from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and has taught preschoolers in a variety of settings for the past 6 years. Jessicca and her husband, Ryan have been married 9 years, and have a daughter, Quinn, who will be in 3rd grade. They have two cats, Maddie & Lee-Lee, 2 hermit crabs, and a fish named Thunder. Jessicca loves crafting, fine arts, cooking, coffee, family board game nights and provoking curiosity in little minds!
Mrs. Dowdle joined Shady Oak in early 2019 as a substitute and is excited to start her first year as a teacher assistant for Readiness at Shady Oak! Mrs. Dowdle has an Associates Degree in Psychology. She loves spending time with her husband of 11 years, Shannon, and their 2 children, Avery (6) and Logan (9). Mrs. Dowdle's children LOVE animals, and their family enjoys caring for their 2 dogs, Scarlett and Buddy, 2 tree frogs, 4 anole lizards, 1 gecko, 1 beta, and 2 snails. Mrs. Dowdle especially loves doing crafts and movie nights with family and friends outside on the projector or snuggled up on the couch!
Lyndsay is so excited to begin her third year as a Lead teacher. She worked as a teacher in the public school setting before she took time off to spend time and learn from her children. Lyndsay has an Elementary Education degree with a concentration in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University. She is currently working on her Wonder certification. Lyndsay and husband, Richard, have two children, Caden, who will be in 3rd grade and Addison, who will be in 1st grade. Lyndsay enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and cooking. She can’t wait to begin another great year at Shady Oak.
Pre-K and Bridge Teacher
Brandy joined Shady Oak during the 2015-2016 school year. This year, she is looking forward to joining the Pre-K team as the Pre-K/Bridge teacher, still enjoying her time with Kindergarten in the afternoons. Brandy has taught both in private and public school settings, preschool-5th grade. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education, from Mercyhurst University, in Erie, PA. Brandy's family includes husband Shaddick and sons Liam and Fynn. Liam will be entering 4th grade at Shady Oak Primary, and Fynn will join him in 3rd grade. The Keagy family also includes Mica and Moose, dachshund brothers. Brandy's passions include reading, scrapbooking, and all things Disney.
Veronica joined the Shady Oak staff in the fall of 2013. She has worked as Pre K Assistant, as a substitute and After School Assistant. This school year she will be the Pre K Assistant. Veronica and husband, Jason, have been married for 12 years and have 2 children. Jayden,, will attend 6th grade this Fall and Olivia will be in 2nd grade. They have a cat, Lightning. In her free time Veronica enjoys time with family, Zumba, reading, running, and being outdoors.
Kathy has been a teacher at Shady Oak for almost 30 years and is currently our Kindergarten teacher. Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lock Haven State College in Pennsylvania. Kathy and her husband, Dan, have been married for 42 years. They have 2 daughters: Erica (husband, Nathan and Granddaughter, Elayna) and Lindsay (husband, Stephen and Grandson, Jay-Jay ). Kathy loves bowling, show tunes, theatre, and spending time with her family and dogs, Bart & Lucy. Kathy is a lover of all God’s creatures, great and small.
Brandie Trigger Mitchell
Brandie Trigger Mitchell, Wellness Consultant: Brandie joined Shady Oak in the summer of 2007 as Wellness Consultant and taught alongside Mrs. Strode in the 5-day Pre-K class for the 2007-2008 school year. Brandie is a Registered Nurse, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Wellness Coach and has a private practice supporting families with massage therapy and wellness coaching in Houston. Additionally, she contributes to the policies and practices at Shady Oak regarding nutrition and health. Brandie and her husband Mark live in Sugarland and she loves swimming, crafting, and mothering her daughters, Ella (7 years old) and Kate ( 3 years old).
Alicea just graduated high school in May 2019 ,and she will be going to college this fall majoring in business and nursing. Alicea attended Shady Oak when she was 4 years old, and now she is a teacher aide at the same school she loved as a child. She is extremely excited to begin her first year, as a camp teacher this summer and after school teacher this fall. Alicea lives with her mom( Michele) and dad (Al) who has been married for 29 years. She also has an older brother name Aj who is her best friend. On her free time, she enjoys star gazing, playing sports, and attending church.
