Meet the Shady Oak Staff!
Joyce Trigger founded Shady Oak Christian School in 1987. Her life has been blessed immeasurably by the hundreds of families who have trusted the school in the nurturing, education, and guidance of their children. Joyce graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Elementary Education and from the University of Houston with a MS in Curriculum and Instruction. Her passion is Parent Education, understanding fully that parents are the REAL teachers of young children. She and her husband, Tom, have lived in the Pecan Grove Community for almost 30 years! They enjoy being grandparents to Ella, Kate, and Sammy. What a gift to have Ella, age 4, come to Shady Oak in the Readiness MWF class!
Bridget is starting her 22nd year as our Assistant Director. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. Bridget and husband, Dave, have been married for 34 years. They have 3 sons: Joshua, Sean, and Timothy. Sean and Timothy attended Shady Oak, and all three boys have worked here. Bridget enjoys playing with her dog, Sloan, spending time with her family, traveling and exploring the world with Dave, working-out and walking, and Friday night dinners with friends.
Lauren has been a Shady Oak Parent for the last 5 years and began substitute teaching at Shady Oak Christian School during the 2014-15 school year. This fall will be her second year as a lead teacher for Shady Oak. She is excited for another great year! Lauren studied Elementary Education at Stephen F. Austin University where she also met her husband, Matt. Lauren and Matt have 3 children. Son, Brayden, age 7, will be attending Shady Oak Primary School this fall as a second grader. Daughter, Payton, age 6, will be a first grade student at Shady Oak Primary School, and daughter, Emma, age 3, will be in the Readiness class. Lauren has a passion for early childhood education and believes in the value of play when it comes to learning. Lauren knew she found the best school for her family when she started her oldest, Brayden, in the Readiness class 4 years ago. In her free time, Lauren enjoys spending time with family and friends, being a mom to her 3 kids, and loving her husband, Matt. Lauren also loves swimming, reading, being outdoors, anything competitive, and of course, a nice date night with Matt.
Selena is excited to be starting her first year as a Lead Readiness teacher. She’s been an assistant teacher at Shady Oak for the last 4 years. Selena and husband, Brandon, have a 7 year old son, Jaeden, and a 1 year old daughter, Aubrie. She will be continuing her Education degree at WCJC. Selena enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, sports and outdoors.
This fall, Linda will be starting her 28th year with Shady Oak. Linda has a Child Development Associate Credential from Wharton County Junior College. Linda and husband, Ruben, have 3 children: Rebecca, Albert and Catherine. In her spare time she enjoys sewing, music, dancing, reading, trying new recipes and spending time with family, friends, and her dog Molly. Linda and Ruben especially love sharing their time with their first grandchild, 2 year old Evoleht (Evie) and their newborn grandson, Easton.
This fall Patricia will be starting her 8th year with Shady Oak. She is excited to be joining the Pre-k team this fall as a lead teacher. Patricia studied early childhood education at the University of Houston, Sugarland. This November she will be getting married to her fiancé, Pierce. She enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her future husband, Pierce, miniature dachshund, Winnie, and her family. Some of her favorite activities include swimming, fishing, running and lounging in a hammock with a good book.
Amanda is excited to be starting her second year as one of our lead Pre-K teachers. Ms. Turman started working at Shady Oak as a student intern in 2014, and quickly graduated to a teaching assistant during the 2014-15 school year. Amanda has worked in licensed daycare facilities or in her own home daycare for the past 20 years. She earned a “Marketable Skills Award” as well as her Certification in Early Childhood Education and is currently working on her Associate’s Degree from Wharton County Junior College. Amanda’s hobbies include gardening, fishing, crafting and all her animals.
Veronica joined the Shady Oak staff in the fall of 2013. She has worked as Pre K Assistant, as a substitute and After School Assistant. This school year she will be the Pre K Assistant. Veronica and husband, Jason, have been married for 9 years and have 2 children. Jayden,8, will attend 3rd grade at Shady Oak Primary School and Olivia,4, will be in Bridge class at Shady Oak Christian School. They have a cat, Lightning. In her free time Veronica enjoys time with family, Zumba, reading, running, and being outdoors.
Kathy has been a teacher at Shady Oak for 25 years and is currently our Kindergarten teacher. Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lock Haven State College in Pennsylvania. Kathy and her husband, Dan, have been married for 40 years. They have 2 daughters: Erica (husband Nathan and granddaughter Elayna) and Lindsay (husband Stephen). Kathy loves bowling, show tunes, theatre, and spending time with her family and dogs, Bart, Phoebe & Lucy. Kathy is a lover of all God’s creatures, great and small!
Kindergarten Assistant and Bridge Teacher
Natasha is beginning her 11th year at Shady Oak and is looking forward to another great year in Kindergarten and Bridge with Mrs. Strode. She received her Child Development Associate Credential from Wharton County Junior College. Natasha has been married to her high school sweetheart, Robert, for 28 years. They have 5 children: Justin & wife, Sara , Patricia & fiancé, Pierce, Jonah, Elijah and Ava. She is also a Mom to her 4 year old schnoodle, Junie B. Elijah and Ava are both former Shady Oak students. Natasha enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, crafting & up-cycling furniture and relaxing by the beach.
Brandie Trigger Mitchell
randie joined Shady Oak in the summer of 2007 as Wellness Consultant and taught alongside Mrs. Strode in the 5-day Pre-K class for the 2007-2008 school year. Brandie is a Registered Nurse, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Wellness Coach and has a private practice supporting families with massage therapy and wellness coaching in Houston. Additionally, she contributes to the Shady Oak monthly newsletter with current information on nutrition and health. Brandie and her husband Mark live in Bellaire and she loves swimming, crafting, and mothering her daughters, Ella (4 years old) and Kate (7 months).
Teacher Support Specialist and Substitute Teacher
Brandy joined Shady Oak as a substitute teacher during the 2015-2016 school year. This year she will be an assistant in Pre-K, and will continue to sub in all classes. Brandy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa. She has taught Pre-K, kindergarten, and has been a Math Remediation teacher in grades 3-5. Brandy and her husband Shaddick have been married for 9 years and are the parents to Liam,7, and Fynn,6. Liam will be a first grader at Shady Oak Primary this year, and Fynn will be a kindergartener at Shady Oak Christian School. The Keagy family also includes two dachshunds, Mica and Moose. Brandy’s hobbies include baking and scrapbooking.
