Joyce Trigger

Director

Joyce Trigger founded Shady Oak Christian School in 1987.  Her life has been blessed immeasurably by the hundreds of families who have trusted the school in the nurturing, education, and guidance of their children.  Joyce graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Elementary Education and from the University of Houston with a MS in Curriculum and Instruction. Her passion is Parent Education, understanding fully that parents are the REAL teachers of young children.  She and her husband, Tom, have lived in the Pecan Grove Community for almost 30 years!  They enjoy being grandparents to Ella, Kate, and Sammy.  What a gift to have Ella, age 5, come to Shady Oak in the Bridge class!

Ashley Schmidt

Assistant Director

Ashley Schmidt joins Shady Oak following a 16-year career serving the families of Fort Bend County as a public librarian.  Ashley feels blessed to join Shady Oak as Assistant Director as well as to be a parent of a "Shady Oak Kid."  Ashley is also a Yoga Instructor and enjoys spending time with her husband, Casey; son, Silas; and their dog, Shiloh.  In their free time, Ashley's family spends time playing baseball in their backyard, tending to their vegetable garden, and being outdoors at their family's land in Sheridan, TX.

Lyndsay Forsythe

Readiness Teacher:
Lyndsay is so excited to begin her first year as a Lead Readiness teacher. She worked as a teacher in the public school setting before she took time off to spend time and learn from her children. Lyndsay has an Elementary Education degree with a concentration in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University. Lyndsay and husband, Richard, have two children, Caden who is 6 and will be in 1st grade and Addison, who will begin Pre-K at Shady Oak this Fall. Lyndsay enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and cooking. She can’t wait to begin a great year at Shady Oak.

Selena Humphrey

Readiness Teacher:
 Selena will be starting her 6th year with Shady Oak, this fall. This year will be her second year as lead teacher in Readiness. She is excited to start another great year! Selena and husband, Brandon, have an 8-year-old son, Jaeden, and a 2-year-old daughter, Aubrie. Outside of Shady Oak and being a mom and wife, Selena will be continuing her Education degree. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, sports, and being outdoors. 

Leo Gutierrez

Readiness Assistant and Spanish Teacher:
2018-19 is Leo's first year at Shady Oak as the Readiness Assistant and Spanish Teacher.  She has a 13 year old daughter named Sophia.  Leo is originally from Dallas, TX.  She and her husband are recent transplants to the Houston area. Leo looks forward to a fun year of learning from Shady Oak teachers and kids and especially to teaching Spanish!  In her free time she enjoy reading,  hiking,  shopping, traveling, dancing,  and spending time with her mom and daughter .

Patricia Otto

Pre-K Teacher

This fall Patricia will be starting her 11th year with Shady Oak. Patricia studied early childhood education at the University of Houston, Sugarland. Patricia and her husband, Pierce have a son named Gunther. She enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her husband, miniature dachshund, Winnie and her family. Some of her favorite activities include swimming, fishing, beach bumming, running and lounging in a hammock with a good book.

 

Lauren Jeffrey

Pre-K Teacher

Lauren will be starting her 3rd year with Shady Oak. This will be her first full year as a lead Pre-K Teacher. She studied Early Childhood at WCJC in Sugar Land and graduated with her associates degree this past Spring. Lauren loves spending time at her apartment with her dog, Bear, and cat, Louie. Most of all, Lauren loves spending time with her family, going out to eat and having lazy days by the pool. Lauren is looking forward to a great year in Pre-K at Shady Oak.

Veronica

Veronica Barr

Pre-K Assistant

 Veronica joined the Shady Oak staff in the fall of 2013.   She has worked as Pre K Assistant, as a substitute and After School Assistant. This school year she will be the Pre K Assistant.  Veronica and husband, Jason, have been married for 10 years and have 2 children. Jayden,, will attend 4th grade at Shady Oak Primary School and Olivia,, will be in the Kindergarten class at Shady Oak Christian School.  They have a cat, Lightning. In her free time Veronica enjoys time with family, Zumba, reading, running, and being outdoors.

 

 

Kathy

Kathy Strode

Kindergarten Teacher

Kathy has been a teacher at Shady Oak for 26 years and is currently our Kindergarten teacher.  Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lock Haven State College in Pennsylvania. Kathy and her husband, Dan, have been married for 41 years. They have 2 daughters: Erica (husband, Nathan and Granddaughter, Elayna) and Lindsay (husband, Stephen and Grandson, Jacob ). Kathy loves bowling, show tunes, theatre, and spending time with her family and dogs, Bart & Lucy. Kathy is a lover of all God’s creatures, great and small

Brandy Keagy

Kindergarten Assistant and Bridge Teacher

Brandy joined Shady Oak as a substitute teacher during the 2015-2016 school year. This year she will be an assistant in kindergarten. Brandy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa. She has taught Pre-K, kindergarten, and has been a Math Remediation teacher in grades 3-5. Brandy and her husband Shaddick have been married for 10 years and are the parents to Liam,8, and Fynn,7. Liam will be a second grader and Fynn will be a first grader at Shady Oak Primary this year. The Keagy family also includes two dachshunds, Mica and Moose. Brandy's hobbies include baking and scrapbooking.

Brandie Trigger Mitchell

Wellness Consultant

Brandie Trigger Mitchell, Wellness Consultant:  Brandie joined Shady Oak in the summer of 2007 as Wellness Consultant and taught alongside Mrs. Strode in the 5-day Pre-K class for the 2007-2008 school year. Brandie is a Registered Nurse, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Wellness Coach and has a private practice supporting families with massage therapy and wellness coaching in Houston. Additionally, she contributes to the Shady Oak monthly newsletter with current information on nutrition and health.  Brandie and her husband Mark live in Sugarland and she loves swimming, crafting, and mothering her daughters, Ella (5 years old) and Kate ( 1 year old).

Rachel DePavia

Nature Specialist

Rachel joined the Shady Oak family in Fall of 2015 when her youngest daughter Emilia began Readiness. Rachel is delighted to be joining the Shady Oak staff this fall as Nature Specialist. In her long and checkered past, Rachel received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her Master’s degree from the University of Washington, in Seattle.  She has taught preschool, elementary and community college classes, but draws from her experience as Assistant Naturalist at the Wagner Ranch Nature Area in Orinda, California (2005 – 2010) in preparing for Shady Oak outdoor exploration.  Rachel and her husband Luis (22 Years) have two much older children, Adela(20) and Mario (16) in addition to Emilia, and their Australian shepherd, Enya.  In her free time, Rachel loves to play outside in the garden. She has a new pair of rain boots for this job so let’s go out and play!

Stephanie Loosbrock

After School Teacher

This is Ms. Loosbrock's first year at Shady Oak! She has one step child named Zavier who is 5 and a dog named Oakley who is a German Pointer.She loves spending the weekends with her family at the dog park, fishing and hanging out at the beach. Ms. Loosbrock is a student at the University of Houston working on her degree in early education k-6. She will graduate next December. Ms. Loosbrock lives in Richmond, Tx butI spends her summer in Wyoming hiking the mountains and visiting with family. Ms. Loosbrock says, "My favorite thing about becoming a teacher is helping little children reach potential and being excited to learn new things"
